Content Reel

Carpe Diem Media Corp. (“CDMC”) was established in 2003 as an independent production and distribution organization led by seasoned media executive owner Frank Bertolas. Together with sister production companies Network Productions Inc. (“NPI”), G2S Productions Inc. (“G2S”) and Island Grove Entertainment Inc. (“IGEI”), CDMC has been involved in the creation of a broad array of media content, including TV series, Documentary, Feature Film and Web series, in a variety of genres and formats for various platforms – Broadcast, Theatrical, Pay-per-view, On-Demand, Digital Multi-platform windowing, 3-D, Virtual Reality and live video streaming. The group was created following the launch of many new specialty TV channels in Canada to produce television event and series content in the then-emerging High-Definition format.  As the industry has changed over the years, the focus continues to remain at the forefront of new evolutions in content creation and distribution (including High Definition and now 4k) and exploring new revenue and evolving monetization models for the various new digital and social media platforms.

While CDMC has executed a substantial body of owned content, there has also been a variety of valuable contributions as Executive Producer, Project Financing, Project Management etc. for various Canadian Media and Independent Production companies, such as Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Bell Media, SportsNet, Anthem Media, Corus Entertainment, Cineflix Productions, Paperny Films and Hollywood Suite. Content projects are executed with the assembly of specifically skilled and managed free-lance production teams selected depending on the project genre. Notably, the involvement of CDMC as a distributor, its expanding catalogue of content in high-demand genres, and the expertise and relationships to secure license arrangements within Canada and abroad also contributing added-value of being able to connect important additional financial structure components with a variety of media content funding agencies and various tax credit incentives. A solid economic base has been established with the value of production involvement over the past 19 years, exceeding $75 million.

Building on the experience of being part of major media companies, such as Columbia Pictures, Cineplex Odeon, Labatt Entertainment, The Sports Network, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and Blue Ant, Frank has been instrumental in the launch of several broadcast, production and media entities, including Discovery Channel, Fireworks Entertainment and Leafs TV. In the last few years, a focus has been on working with smaller broadcaster groups and other independent content producers to help diversify and expand their business models and produce creative content for an integrated cross-platform release. Creating unique content within their respective genre of focus, and executing more nimbly across various emerging platforms to cross-promote and expand their audience and revenue potential, was an essential strategic focus.  The digital media continue to mature with many once new entrants now becoming more dominant and with a large appetite for compelling media content for their substantial and growing audiences.  Creating well-produced, relevant content for the new online world and traditional media outlets is a significant opportunity to expand the portfolio of owned and co-production content creation focus and develop CDMC’s distribution catalogue.

CDMC continues to actively create new concepts for development in its owned slate or partnership with other producers and broadcasters. All of our media project topics are selected carefully with key motivations of historical and social relevance and personal and community well-being for today and the future. Subjects, story portrayals, and presentation styles are all approached and tailored to appropriate sensitivities. Various production formats, distribution platforms and release strategies are used for our media projects tailored to the subject matter, storyline and target audience.  As veteran content creators, a critical success strategy has been to build knowledge and expertise in a subject area through the execution of multiple media projects that are related or connected, using various forms or formats, with each being sequentially larger in terms of investment and audience achievement.
